Research Funding Opportunities
NHS Student Research Fund
Since 2006, the Student Research Fund has supported the research and research-related travel by student at UNC. The fund is partially supported through donations by faculty, staff and friends of the college in addition to proceeds generated by the NHS Student Research Celebration. These funds are made available to students through a competitive proposal process. Additional funding from the Bob and Bonnie Phelps NHS Student Research Fund, endowed in 2016, further supports funding undergraduate student research grants and efforts.
Calls for proposal are made twice each academic year. Proposals received by the deadline will be reviewed by the NHS Awards Committee, who will recommend to the Dean of the College an allocation of funds.
Deadline: October 4, 2019
Student Research C.A.P. Awards
The NHS Student Research C.A.P. Awards were created in 2019 thanks to generous funding provided by Bob and Bonnie Phelps Family CAP Trust. The awards support undergraduate research in the College of Natural and Health Sciences. The acronym "C.A.P." stands for Contribute, Achieve, Pay-it-Forward, which Bob and Bonnie believe to be among the most important pillars for building and living meaningful lives.
Three awards of up to $4,000 each are available for the 2019-2020 academic year through a competitive proposal process. A call for proposals will be made available during the fall semester with an application deadline in spring 2020.
