Waitlist FAQ's
The University of Northern Colorado offers Registration Waitlists during the Fall and Spring semesters for students attempting to register for undergraduate and graduate course sections that have reached capacity. Being on a Registration Waitlist does not guarantee enrollment in the course(s).
For additional information, check out the Waitlisting for Students help sheet.
- What courses are eligible for Registration Waitlist?
Not all courses will have a waitlist option; waitlist participation is up to the instructor/department. If you have any questions regarding a specific course, please contact the department of the course.
- How do I get on a Registration Waitlist for a section?
If you would like to register for a course that is closed and has waitlist available, you will need to register for the course by adding the course to your pending course summary and then selecting 'Waitlisted' under the action drop down.
- When a seat is available, is the next student on the list automatically registered
for the class?
No, you are not automatically registered for a class. You are notified via your BearMail account that a seat is available in a specific section. The email also gives a deadline by which you must register for the section or be dropped from the waitlist for that section.
You are given 24 hours from the time of notification to register for the class. If you are notified on the last day to add courses through Ursa, you may have less than 24 hours to register. Your registration date and time deadline will be included in the waitlist notification email you receive. Please pay close attention.
- How do I know my spot on the Registration Waitlist?
You may see where you are on the Registration Waitlist for a specific section through your Detail Schedule in Ursa
- Can I sign up for a waitlist if I haven’t met the prerequisite or don’t meet the restrictions
for the section? No, you must meet the prerequisite and section restrictions in order to sign up for the Registration Waitlist for a section. You may contact the instructor of the course to discuss the restrictions.
- May I sign up for more than one Registration Waitlist?
Yes, you may register for more than one Registration Waitlist. There is no limit. However, you cannot place yourself on multiple waitlist sections for the same course.
We strongly urge you to remove yourself from all Registration Waitlists once your registration has been finalized so that others may have an opportunity to sign up.
- May I still be on a Registration Waitlist if I have failed the in‐progress prerequisite
the prior term?Once you have signed up on a Registration Waitlist, you are not dropped from it unless your drop yourself. However, if you are notified that a seat is available in a section for which you have failed your in‐progress prerequisite, you will receive a Prerequisite or Test Score needed registration error and will not be able to register for the course.
- I received an email informing me that a space was available in a section and I could
register. However, I did not read it in time to register before the 24 hour deadline. You are responsible to routinely check your Bearmail account. If you miss the 24 hour deadline, you will lose your spot and must re‐register for the Waitlist if you still wish to register for the course/section.
- How long does this process go on through the semester?
The notification process will go on through the add deadline of the course. Notifications that are sent out on the add deadline will expire at midnight that day, which may give you less than 24 hours to register. Ursa does not allow online registration after midnight of the add deadline.
If you receive permission from the department to register for a section after the add deadline, you need to submit the appropriate late add form to the Office of the Registrar for consideration.
- When does the waitlist expire? All waitlist positions will expire at midnight on the last day to add the course.
- How does waitlisting impact my Financial Aid?Waitlisted courses do not count towards your enrollment status, full time or part time. Enrollment status directly impacts your financial aid awards/offers. You must be registered, not waitlisted, for course credit to establish an enrollment status that places you at full time status or part time status. ONLY registered course credit is used to determine financial aid award standing.
