Course Add Procedure
Students may add courses using Ursa through the 5th day of the semester for full semester courses. For courses not meeting the full semester dates, see Special term and Short Courses deadlines.
During days 6 through 10, the student may have you sign the Course Late Add Request Form. By signing the form you are agreeing to any course overrides the student might need (pre-requisite/capacity/restrictions) except for a Time Conflict. The Time Conflict override requires separate initials. This form is available on the Office of the Registrar website only during days 6-10. Once the form is received, the Office of the Registrar will register the student. This form must be received in our office no later than 5:00 pm on day 10.
After day 10, the Petition to Late Add a Course form must be completed. In order to submit an appeal:
- The student must have been attending on or before the drop deadline of the course
- The student must include a written statement describing the circumstances that kept them from adhering to the deadline. Petitions submitted without a reason/statement will be denied.
This form MUST include all signatures and a student start date to be considered.
Course Drop Procedure

As an instructor, you may give permission for students to enter a closed or restricted course by releasing the student using the Faculty Self Service in Ursa. Click here for detailed instructions.
The following override types may be used:
CAPACITY - Override Capacity - this releases a student if the course is closed, but does not override any other restrictions.
ICEXCAP - Inst Consent Excluding Capacity - this releases a student for all restrictions, except the course capacity and time conflict.
INSTCONS - Inst Consent Including Capacity- this releases a student for ALL restrictions, except time conflict.
TMCONFLICT - Course Time Conflict - this releases a student to register in a course which has a time conflict with another course on their schedule
MUTEXC - Mutually Exclusive Courses – Overrides a mutually exclusive restriction
Make sure the student understands that they will still have to complete the registration process on Ursa.
- They will need to go to the Student Tab of their Ursa Account and choose Register, Add or Drop Classes.
- They need to enter the CRN number directly into the worksheet and not search for the course as it will still show closed even though they have been released.
If the student indicates they are having trouble registering and you have verified the correct override was entered, please refer them to our office at 970-351-4UNC (4862) or firstname.lastname@example.org.
