Mission
Student Affairs is dedicated to fostering the holistic development, belonging, and success of every student. We create and sustain inclusive and supportive co-curricular learning and engagement experiences—rooted in self-awareness, interpersonal skills, equity, well-being, leadership and career readiness—that complement and enhance academic growth. Through intentional partnership, continuous assessment, and advocacy, we eliminate barriers, honor diverse identities, teach life skills, advance upward mobility, and equip students to thrive personally, professionally and as civic leaders.
Vision Statement
Student Affairs will provide exemplary programs and services, in support of a UNC where every student feels a deep sense of belonging and has the opportunities and resources they need to thrive and achieve their potential, both during their time at UNC and beyond.
Student Affairs Values
- Student Centeredness—We design policies, programs and services around what best supports students’ learning, development and well-being—academically, personally and socially.
- Servingness—We actively and intentionally advance the holistic success of all students, particularly those from historically underserved and marginalized communities.
- Equity and Access—We intentionally remove barriers to student success, and we are committed to students having effective access to the information, services, resources and programs they need to succeed.
- Inclusion and Belonging—We support all students to feel included, accepted and connected.
- Learning—We teach students essential life skills and lessons.
- Collaboration—We cooperate and collaborate across units and people.
- Community—We co-create supportive and healthy communities on campus, educating students about how they can contribute to positive community both during and after their UNC experience.
- Well-being—We support students across the dimensions of wellness– physical, emotional, social, intellectual, sexual, cultural, occupational, environmental, spiritual, digital and financial.
- Ethical Leadership & Integrity—We model and foster principled decision-making and integrity at all levels.
- Growth Mindset & Resilience—We believe that capabilities can be developed through dedication, effort and learning from mistakes.
- Accountability—We embrace an educational framework to engage students in taking responsibility for actions and outcomes.
Strategic Plan
The division will provide strategic leadership in facilitating efforts to recruit, enroll, and retain
talented students who are accomplished in extracurricular endeavors and broadly diverse.
