Special Non Degree Registration Options

The Concurrent Enrollment Programs Act (CEPA) is a state law (HB 09-1319; SB 09-285; HB 12-1043) that allows high school students to simultaneously earn both high school and college credit. Colorado students have a wide variety of opportunities to earn college level credit(s) or further enhance their preparation for postsecondary study. Students who are currently in the 9th through 12th grade, may qualify to enroll in college courses, at the UNC campus, during the Fall and Spring semesters under the Concurrent Enrollment Program. Please check with your high school counselor for more information before starting the application process.

Follow these steps to apply for concurrent enrollment.

  1. Coordinate with your high school counselor to be sure you are a good candidate for concurrent enrollment.
  2. Complete a non-degree seeking application and select concurrent enrollment as the student type.
  3. Work with your parent or guardian to complete the concurrent enrollment agreement.
  4. Work with your high school counselor to select which course(s) you wish to complete and upload the course registration form with your application.
    • Please note that concurrent enrollment students are held to the same course pre-requisites as traditional students. Students may be asked to provide information about previous courses taken.
  5. Keep an eye on your Bearmail for confirmation of registration or questions from the Office of the Registrar.

Students who are home schooled or would like to take a class during the Summer semester will need to contact the Office of the Registrar at 970-351-4862, option 2.

When you audit a course, you’re not required to complete assignments or take exams—but you do need to attend class.

If you don’t attend, you may be removed from the class roster.

If you complete the course, you’ll receive a grade of NC (No Credit).

Tuition and fees still apply, and audited courses are not eligible for the College Opportunity Fund (COF) stipend.

Already Registered?
If you’re a current student and want to switch a class to audit, contact the Registrar’s Office before the add deadline for that term. Changes can’t be made after that date.

Visiting Student?
Please call the Registrar’s Office at 970-351-4862 for help with auditing.

Senior Citizens (65 and above) are eligible to audit courses through the University of Northern Colorado with no tuition charges (course fees may apply). Please note that credit is not earned for course(s) being audited. If a course needs taken for credit, normal tuition and fees would apply.

Seniors wishing to audit a course will be allowed to register the Monday following the last day of pre-registration for UNC students. Registration is subject to space availability. All students must have an active student account to be able to register.

If needing to activate a student account, students that have attended or graduated from UNC may submit the Returning Student Application. Students that have never attended UNC may submit the non-degree seeking application. Students will be sent URSA account activation information after this application is processed.

After Senior Citizens have registered through their URSA account for the course(s) they are wanting to audit, it is important to contact the Registrar’s Office and ask that the Senior Audit coding be applied to the course(s).
