Undergraduate Music Admissions
Find the music degree that fits your goals.
UNC offers three undergraduate pathways: a flexible Bachelor of Arts (BA), an intensive Bachelor of Music (BM) and a Bachelor of Music Education (BME) leading to K–12 teacher licensure.
The BA, BM and BME are not different levels of the same degree. They are different paths designed for different interests and careers.
Choose Your Music Degree
Bachelor of Arts in Music
Flexible and Interdisciplinary. Choose the Bachelor of Arts if you want to study music while maintaining room for electives, a minor, a second major or another professional interest.
Choose from Music Business and Recording Arts, Latinx Music, or Culture and Expression. Each program offers a distinct way to connect music with your interests and career goals.
No audition or interview is required for admission. You may complete an optional audition to be considered for a music talent scholarship.
Bachelor of Music
Intensive Professional Training. Choose the Bachelor of Music if you want a professionally focused, conservatory-style education centered on performance or composition. Most of your degree will be devoted to music through private lessons, ensembles, rehearsals, theory, aural skills, history and advanced study in your area.
Choose from Composition, Jazz Studies, or Performance, with performance study available in instrumental, piano and voice areas.
An audition is required for admission to all Bachelor of Music programs. Composition applicants must also submit program materials and complete an interview.
Bachelor of Music Education
Prepare to Teach Music. Choose the Bachelor of Music Education if you want to combine musical study and performance with professional preparation for a career as a music educator.
The Music Education: K–12 Licensure program includes education coursework, classroom experiences and student teaching leading to Colorado K–12 music teacher licensure.
Admission requires an audition on your primary instrument or voice and an interview with Music Education faculty.
