Performing & Visual Arts Season
Welcome to our 2026-27 Arts Season!
¡Bienvenid@s a nuestra nueva temporada de artes!
Welcome to a season that explores the relationship between tradition and transformation. Artists develop their craft by learning from the past while embracing innovation that shapes the future. Throughout the year, we will celebrate artistic heritage and creative possibilities.
Tradition: Experience enduring works and cultural traditions through performances and exhibitions including Celebremos with Latin Beat, the ceramics exhibit Italian Studies, Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, Verdi’s Requiem, Guettel’s The Light in the Piazza, and Massenet’s Cendrillon. Honor local legacies with The Return of the Corn Mothers, an exhibit celebrating the agricultural heritage of local women, a concert of music by Colorado jazz composer Paul McKee, and a retrospective of longtime UNC art faculty member Fred Myers.
Transition: For Humans, By Humans combines concert dance with film and projection research, while the exhibit Space Invaders reimagines familiar stories through the classic arcade game. The Paul Elwood Festival of New Music celebrates the legacy of founder Paul Elwood, whose work expanded the boundaries of musical composition.
Transformation: Exhibits Hello, Hello Baby and Transfer Points explore technology’s influence on modern life. Theatre productions Spells of the Sea, Sweet Science of Bruising, and The Comeuppance feature courageous characters challenging the status quo. Interdisciplinary collaborations highlight the interaction of medicine, physics, psychology and the arts: The Osteopathic Percussionist, Harmony of the Spheres, and Britten’s opera The Turn of the Screw.
We look forward to welcoming you as a PVA Insider to these and many other unforgettable, inspiring experiences.
—Melissa Malde, Interim Dean, College of Performing and Visual Arts
