Equity and Inclusion Opportunities:
Diversity Mentor Program
The Diversity Mentor Program seeks to maximize student involvement and learning through leadership opportunities, academic support initiatives, and dynamic programs designed to assist students in their own personal development. Each year a new set of undergrad students are hired to become Diversity Mentors. The Diversity Mentors work within the Residence Halls and with cultural and resource centers to promote inclusiveness around campus.
Social Justice & Diversity Committee
A Housing and Residential Committee committed to critically looking at the work we do through the lens of equity and inclusion. Topics have included policy changes, newsletters, programming, and professional development.
Campus Opportunities and Catalyst
During the academic year, there are on-going campus events, activities, discussions, and speakers.
Catalyst, a Social Justice Retreat, is an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to engage in conversation around issues of inclusion and social justice. Participants and facilitators will examine their personal identities; the dynamics of oppression on an individual, systemic, and institutional level; and be introduced to concepts of advocacy for oneself and others. Catalyst’s ultimate goal is to give participants the skills to act on the issues and causes that they are most passionate about. Catalyst takes place January 14th-16th, 2017, in the beautiful scenery of Estes Park. The three day, two night retreat is free to all UNC students, faculty, and staff. Students have the opportunity to apply as participants, while returning students are given an additional option of applying as facilitators. Faculty and staff are encouraged to apply as facilitators and/or participants.
