The Department of Athletics, Student Academic Success, and the Student-Athlete Academic Success Center place the utmost importance on academics during a student-athlete’s college career. As a representative of the University and an athletic team at Northern Colorado, student-athletes are expected to fulfill the following requirements:
- Attend every class, unless traveling for team competition.
- Arrive to class on time and do not leave early.
- Be prepared for each class, participate, and take notes.
- Notify professors during the first week of classes to discuss team travel that will require absence from class. In addition, student-athletes should communicate with professors before each absence throughout the semester about assignments, projects, and exams. Letters indicate a request for permission to be absent; it is up to each individual professor/instructor to determine how attendance affects the course grade per university policy. Letters should not be submitted after team travel. Student-athletes are responsible for making arrangements for missed assignments, quizzes, or exams.
- Treat professors and other university faculty/staff with respect.
- Be attentive in each class and participate in class discussions.
Note: It is never permissible to miss class because of practice activities.
A freshman must meet the following academic requirements during their first year of full-time collegiate enrollment at the University of Northern Colorado:

- Must complete 24 credit hours before the start of the third semester at the University.
