Music Education Audition Requirements

Undergraduate music education applicants will audition for their primary instrument or voice studio and also attend an interview with the music education faculty. Use buttons below to navigate to the appropriate page for audition requirements.

• Upload to the admissions portal a written teaching philosophy, which also serves as an example of your professional writing. 
• Upload to the admissions portal one video of a teaching episode, 15 minutes of consecutive teaching (not an edited compilation). 
• Based on the evaluation of application materials, an audition on primary instrument/voice may be requested. 

• Upload to the admissions portal a sample of your scholarly writing. 
  • Option 1: If you have writing that has been formally published (an article, a presentation with slides and/or handouts, etc), you are invited to submit that. 
  • Option 2: Choose 1 of the following 2 articles and respond to it. Your response should include summary and also critical analysis.  
    • Article 1: Music Education for Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder in a Full-Inclusion Context
    • Article 2: The transfer of group practice strategy instruction to beginning instrumentalists’ individual practice
• Upload to the admissions portal one video of a teaching episode, 15 minutes of consecutive teaching (not an edited compilation). 
• Based on the evaluation of application materials, an audition on primary instrument/voice may be requested.
