Writing Minor

Writing Minor

Program Director: Lisa Zimmerman

The writing minor is a cross-disciplinary undergraduate program designed to strengthen and advance students' writing abilities. Students study the history as well as theories of writing, and gain competence in writing about different subjects, for different purposes and audiences, and in different genres and styles.

The program allows students to focus on areas of specific interest to them (e.g., creative writing or professional writing), as well as to craft an internship that serves their long-term professional goals. We offer creative writing courses from the introductory to the advanced levels, in screenwriting, poetry, prose fiction, and creative non-fiction. We also offer advanced special topics courses in editing, stylistics, and autobiography and memoir. Our writing instructors have published numerous books of fiction and poetry, as well as scholarly essays on a variety of topics.
