Current Students
Here you can find information to help you while you are in the teacher preparation program. This page has details about checkpoints, Praxis tests, student teaching, and the Teacher Cadet program. You will also find resources to guide you as you work toward becoming a teacher.
Teacher Cadet Candidates
Students who received a B or better in their Teacher Cadet coursework may request credit for fulfilling the Educational Foundations requirement in the Elementary, Secondary, and K-12 Professional Teacher Education Programs (PTEP). This awarded credit will, in effect, waive the required 3 credit hours of EDF 290, depending on the PTEP program in which the student enrolls.
To request the EDF credit, please submit a legible copy of your Teacher Cadet Certificate of Completion (The Teacher Cadet Program Portfolio Review certificate) along with a high school transcript indicating the Teacher Cadet Program with grades of B or better to the Office of the Registrar. Teacher Cadet Program credit is counted as non-residency transfer work.
Checkpoints
Students in teacher preparation/licensure programs must complete three required checkpoints—consisting of meetings and/or paperwork accessed through a Canvas shell—to progress through the Professional Teacher Education Program (PTEP).
Praxis Testing
The Colorado Department of Education requires passing scores on state-approved Praxis content tests for teaching licensure in certain subjects or grade levels, and some UNC programs also require these scores for program completion.
Student Teaching
The Educator Preparation Office welcomes you to student teaching—the most significant and rewarding part of your teacher education journey. We hope this experience is engaging, enriching, and deeply meaningful. Learn more about the Student Teaching Requirements.
