Take individual courses, enroll part-time, or build new skills with the flexibility and support of our vibrant learning community—no long-term commitment required.

Non-Degree & Continuing Education Pathways
Complete pre-requisite or leveling coursework to complete required courses and build foundational knowledge and skills needed for success in your next undergraduate or graduate program.
UNC’s Extended Campus programs offers courses designed for students not admitted to a UNC degree but seeking opportunities for professional development, academic coursework or personal interests.
Student not currently enrolled are invited to take a Summer Session course at UNC to get ahead, catch up, or explore a new interest.
Audit a course to engage in learning and classroom discussions without receiving academic credit or grades. Tuition and fees are charged for audited courses. If you are age 65 or older and wish to audit a course, you may do so with no tuition charge (course fees may apply).
Serving as a mentor teacher means guiding and supporting teacher candidates as they gain real classroom experience—and it’s a great opportunity to inspire future educators while strengthening your own practice through meaningful collaboration and reflection.
Take classes for personal interest to explore new ideas, develop skills, or pursue a passion—without the pressure of earning a degree.
What to Expect as a Non-Degree Seeking Student
Application Term Open & Close Dates
Terms become available on the Non-Degree Seeking Application one year prior to the start of the term. Students can submit an application up to the week prior to the start of the term/session they wish to enroll.
Activating Your Account
Upon submission of your non-degree seeking application, please keep an eye on your email and allow up to 48 hours for an update with your next steps.
Course Registration Windows
Registration may occur beginning the first Monday following the last day of pre-registration for UNC students. Registration is subject to space availability. If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact the Registrar’s Office at 970-351-4862.
