Roles & Responsibilities Finalization Checklist

The final specifications for the Roles & Responsibilities page of your School Interpreting Website are below.

Always remember to...

Page Specifications

Select the Roles & Responsibilities page from your site’s navigation menu.

Artifact Sections:

  • Expand the existing artifact sections as appropriate to reflect current knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
    • School Interpreter (including interpreting, sight translating, tutoring & [your choice])
      • Add samples of you performing the roles of a school interpreter. Potential examples of the roles in action include pre- and post-teaching of photosynthesis, Pete the Cat read-aloud, photosynthesis quiz read-aloud, etc. An alternative approach is to reference (with a link) another page/artifact on your website. When referencing, use anchors for improved navigability.
    • Educational Team Members (including [your choice] of the “Core,” “Whole,” and “DHH” IEP team, along with one more of [your choice])

For each role, make sure to explain 1) the historical, legal, and social foundations, 2) the role’s support of the educational system, and 3) who is served by this role. Emphasize the collaboration between the school interpreter and the educational team.

Introduction & Reflection Sections:

  • Add an introductory paragraph explaining why school interpreters hold multiple roles and do more than just interpret.
    • Consider a statement like “School interpreters (or I) don’t just interpret” or the fallacy of “I’m just the interpreter” in educational settings.
    • Consider Fitzmaurice’s (2021) book from INTR 432 in this discussion of the school interpreter’s roles.
  • Update the reflection section to reflect your competence across the page’s artifacts.

Reference Section:

  • Update based on in-text citations.

NOTE: This section can be deleted if no references are used.

Overview Section:

  • Ensure the page introduction is verbatim from the template.
  • Ensure the School Interpreting Series (SIS) Standards are verbatim from the template.
  • Ensure the in-page navigation matches the final page content.
  • Ensure the in-page navigation is appropriately linked.

Comment Section:

  • Apply all feedback from the comment section.

NOTE: This section can be deleted once all feedback is applied.
