Minor Overview
UNC’s Legal Studies minor helps you understand the history, ideas and systems that shape law. This 21-credit program invites you to ask key questions — Why does law exist? How does it work? Does it bring justice? Courses look at law in the United States, across the world, in society and in business. You’ll also study the thinkers and traditions that have shaped legal ideas over time.
It’s a strong option for pre-law students or any major where legal knowledge adds value. You’ll build skills in critical thinking, writing and analysis and may choose an internship for hands-on experience in courts, legislative offices or advocacy groups. While not a mini law school, the minor gives you a strong foundation for graduate study and professional careers and helps you understand the rule of law as a key part of modern society.
