    Recognizing and overcoming the barrier of stigma toward persons with disabilities is the goal of a new research project from Jill Bezyak, professor of Rehabilitation Counseling and Sciences. She's hoping her efforts to test newly developed tools designed to mitigate negative bias are successful, providing persons with disabilities with more employment opportunities and ultimately, a better quality of life.

    As the University of Northern Colorado continues progress toward becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution, it’s taking a moment to celebrate a key enrollment milestone. Fall reports indicate 25.5% of UNC's undergraduate students identify as Hispanic or Latinx; just over the 25% threshold required to apply for the federal HSI designation.

    The University of Northern Colorado’s Marcus Garvey Cultural Center (MGCC), in collaboration with the City of Greeley and powered by PDC Energy, is hosting the first-ever community-wide Juneteenth celebration. The event, scheduled for Friday, June 17, noon to 4 p.m., at the MGCC (928 20th Street, Greeley), is free and open to the public.

    The National Park Service’s African American Civil Rights Grant Program recently awarded the University of Northern Colorado $497,776 to help fund rehabilitation efforts at the African American townsite of Dearfield.

    Ather Zia, Ph.D., an associate professor of Anthropology and Gender Studies at the University of Northern Colorado, was recently awarded the Public Anthropologist Award, a competitive award instituted by Public Anthropologist, an international, peer-reviewed journal.
