The Bresnahan-Halstead Center advances research, service and educational opportunities that improve outcomes for individuals with disabilities, their families and the educators who support them. Through grants and funded initiatives, the Center supports innovative research, professional development, technical assistance, partnerships and student financial assistance that strengthen the field and expand opportunities for people with disabilities.
Available Grants
The Bresnahan-Halstead Center’s UNC Faculty/Advisory Board Professional Development Support Grant provides up to $1,000 in funding to support professional development opportunities that increase the knowledge and skills of School of Special Education faculty and Bresnahan-Halstead Center Advisory Board members. Funding may support professional development experiences that contribute to continued learning and professional growth, with preference given to individuals pursuing advanced certification, endorsement, or licensure. Funded activities must align with the mission of the Bresnahan-Halstead Center and include an evaluation plan. The Bresnahan-Halstead Center’s Community Technical Assistance Grant provides up to $5,000 to support partnerships between the University of Northern Colorado School of Special Education and local education agencies or organizations serving individuals with disabilities and their families. Grant funds support school professionals in providing technical assistance designed to strengthen practices, build capacity, and improve outcomes for students with disabilities. The Bresnahan-Halstead Center’s Doctoral Student Dissertation Fellowship Grant provides up to $500 per UNCO School of Special Education doctoral students who are in the advanced stages of completing their dissertation. Grant funds may be used for dissertation-related expenses such as transcription services, research protocols, software, study supplies, and editing services. The Bresnahan-Halstead Center’s UNC Faculty Travel Support Grant provides funding to support the School of Special Education faculty and Bresnahan-Halstead Center Advisory Board members who are presenting at professional conferences. Funding of up to $2,000 for domestic travel and $2,500 for international travel (per semester) may be used to support eligible conference-related travel expenses after other potential funding sources have been explored. Supported travel must align with the mission of the Bresnahan-Halstead Center and include an evaluation of the impact of the professional experience. The Veronica Brennan Memorial Scholarship supports students who are enrolled full-time in the GOAL Program at UNC. Established in honor of Veronica’s lifelong commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities, the scholarship helps offset the cost of participation in the GOAL program and promotes access to inclusive educational opportunities.
