The Center for Human Enrichment (CHE) provides support to first generation college students; these are students whose parents or legal guardians do not hold a bachelor’s degree or students who have independent status, living outside the support of a natural or adoptive parent.
As a CHE participant, you will become part of a caring community that will support your academic and personal growth until you graduate from UNC. The CHE program is recognize in the top 1% of all federally funded Student Support Services (SSS) programs in the nation.

Each year the Center for Human Enrichment (CHE) program accepts approximately 60-70 new students who are the first in their families to attend college. To be eligible students must:
- be a first-generation college student
- meet federal income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Education
- accepted students must be committed to utilizing CHE's program services throughout their undergraduate career.
Currently we are recruiting participants for the new cohort for the 2020-2021 academic year. To apply to CHE download the application and follow the submission instructions below. In order to help us process your application in a timely manner, before submitting, review your application to make sure it is completed. Check to make sure you have attach the required tax information, and included the responses to the FIVE essay questions.
