Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I have to have the UNC Student Health Insurance in order to use the Student Health Center?

All students are eligible to use the health center. You will want to check if your insurance is in network to get the most benefit from your coverage.

  • Do I need an appointment to come to the Health Center?

Normally, appointments are not necessary as the health center is a walk in clinic. Wait times are normally very low especially early in the morning. Physicals and Well Woman exams require appointments so please call in advance to schedule these visits. To make an appointment call the front desk at 970-351-2412. When you arrive at the clinic, be sure to notify the front desk that you have scheduled an appointment.

  • Is my visit confidential?

Yes, your visit is strictly confidential. Information from your medical record will not be released without your written permission, except in circumstances of danger to yourself or to others, or unless required by law (public health emergency, disease outbreak, etc.)

  • How Much will it cost?

The cost to the student could vary due to complexity of the visit and the student insurance. Lab work, procedures, and prescription medication are an additional charge. Students will be required to pay their co-pays at the time of their visit. The student will be responsible for any charges not covered by insurance.

  • Does the health center bill insurance?

Yes. The Student Health Center Medical Clinic will bill most private insurance carriers. The student will be responsible for any charges not covered by insurance. You may pay for your charges with cash, check, credit card, or health savings accounts.
