The University of Northern Colorado has initiated its own Free App Days where anyone, anywhere in the world can apply as an undergraduate to UNC without paying the $50 application fee.

UNC One of Top Three Universities with Received Applications on Free App Day
The University of Northern Colorado received 5,837 applications on the third annual Colorado Free Application Day on Oct. 13, an increase compared to last year’s Free App Day, resulting in UNC being one of the top three universities in receiving applications that day.

Music Student Places First in Arranging and Composing Competition
Zach Rich, a Jazz Studies doctoral student at the University of Northern Colorado, won first place in the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers’ (ASMAC) Bill Conti Big Band Arranging and Composing Competition for his composition of “We Love You Madly” (dedicated to Duke Ellington).

Professor Receives U.S. Department of Education Grant for Rehabilitation Counseling Program
For the third time in 10 years, Jill Bezyak, Ph.D., professor of Human Rehabilitative Services and program coordinator for the Rehabilitation Counseling program at the University of Northern Colorado, has received a five-year, $958,778 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to increase the number of qualified vocational rehabilitation counselors who serve individuals with disabilities.

UNC Helped Lead Efforts in Development of Statewide Portal for Colorado ASSET Students
The Colorado Department of Higher Education recently announced a new online application that allows Colorado students who haven’t historically qualified for federal aid, to complete an application for state financial aid (Colorado Application for State Financial Aid (CASFA)). The University of Northern Colorado helped lead efforts in the collaboration and creation of this new unified state application.

Researchers Improve Bail Risk Assessment Tool in Colorado
Over a period of more than two years, two UNC faculty members have reviewed the Colorado Pretrial Assessment Tool for accuracy when determining risk of new arrest or failing to appear in court for arrested individuals that have posted bond. They discovered room for improvement, resulting in the new Colorado Pretrial Assessment Tool-Revised.
