Mentor Teacher Information

UNC is currently offering a professional development course for mentor teachers, hosting UNC teacher licensure candidates, that will grant completers 1 graduate credit that may have the potential to be used toward a Mentor Teacher endorsement program in the future.

Please complete this non-degree seeking student application to get a UNC email and bear # set-up. Once you have that, please email Cheryl Sparks to gain access to the training and receive graduate credit.

Compensation Options for Hosting Teacher Candidates:

If you are a UNC Mentor Teacher hosting a main campus or graduate program candidate you are eligible for compensation.

If your teacher candidate is required to be in your classroom for less than 80 hours per semester, then you are eligible for graduate credit only.

Graduate Credit for supervising the teacher candidate:

  • Appears on your official transcript
  • Cannot be used toward a degree program
  • Often used for district pay scale advancement

If your teacher candidate is required to be in your classroom for more than 80 hours per semester, you may choose one of the following:

A Stipend Payment:

  • $50 for hosting a practicum student
  • $100 for hosting a student teacher

If you are interested in compensation (credit or stipend), please follow these two steps:

  1. Complete this non-degree seeking student application so we can get you in our system.
  2. Complete this application.

Applications must be completed as follows:

No later than November 15th – for Fall hosting

No later than April 15th – for Spring hosting

In addition:
Mentor teachers may request a verification form used for licensure renewal credit with the State. Contact Cheryl Sparks to request this form.  *Please note these letters are not available until two weeks prior to the end of the placement.
