Bear Identification Card

The UNC Card's primary function is to serve as an identification card.

Using Your Bear Card

The UNC Card is the only card UNC students must have to access many of the services on campus. The UNC Card's primary function is to serve as an identification card. A digitized photo, placed in the upper right hand corner of the card, graphically displays the cardholder's photo. Many locations around campus will use the magnetic stripe on the back of the card to check current status. The card will access the student's records and check for any restrictions in the UNC database and will either grant access or deny access. The UNC Card is unique to each individual – sharing of ID cards with others is not allowed and failure to comply may result in disciplinary action.

Dining Hall Access

The University of Northern Colorado offers a wide variety of meal options to students attending UNC. In addition to traditional meal plans available for breakfast, lunch and dinner, there are also optional plans available for most students. With a meal plan, UNC students can eat at any of the following locations:

  • Holmes Dining Room – Located on West Campus
  • Bowlful – Located in the University Center
  • Burger & Co. – Located in the University Center
  • Crisol Latin Kitchen – Located in the University Center
  • Empire State Pizza – Located in the University Center

The only card that will be accepted at these locations will be your UNC I.D. card. As long as the card is valid and working properly, the UNC Card allows students access into these facilities. The UNC card verifies that the student presenting the card has a meal plan, then grants the student access.

(If you have a meal plan and your card does not work at the dining halls, stop into the Card Office in the University Center to see if you need a replacement. If it is not a card problem, the Card Office will be happy to contact Dining Services for you to find out what the problem may be).

Library Card

The University of Northern Colorado offers a wealth of resources through the campus libraries. Any person registered as a UNC student may use the services available at the different locations. UNC offers two libraries available to students, faculty, and staff. The all purpose library, Michener Library,  is located on West Campus. The second library is the School of Music Skinner Library, which is located in Frasier Hall on Central Campus. In order to check out materials at one of the above libraries, students must present their UNC Card.

The only card that will be accepted at these locations will be your UNC I.D. card. As long as the card is valid and working properly, the UNC Card will allow students to access these facilities. The Card will verify that the student presenting the card has authorization to use the library without restrictions.

(If you are a UNC student and your card does not work at either library, stop by the Card Office in the University Center to see if a replacement card needs to be printed).

Recreation Center Access

Students currently enrolled at UNC automatically become members of the Campus Recreation Center when they pay their student fees. In the summer, students who are not taking classes but are enrolled for fall classes may purchase summer membership to the Recreation Center. A membership form along with the student’s fall schedule must be completed and returned to the Administrative Office. The only card that will be accepted at the Recreation Center is your UNC I.D. card. As long as the card is valid, working properly, and the student is registered for classes, the UNC Card will allow students to access the facility. The UNC Card verifies that the student presenting the card is a UNC student paying student fees.

The Campus Recreation Center, with over 90,000 square feet of activity space, is one of the most popular locales on campus. The Rec Center is a multi-purpose facility for the recreation and fitness needs of the students and employees of the University of Northern Colorado.

Fitness and Wellness Programs

The Campus Recreation Center offers formal and drop-in fitness, recreational sports and wellness programs. There are large activity spaces for strength training and conditioning, three multi-purpose gymnasiums with hardwood floors (featuring a total of 6 basketball courts), an indoor 1/10 mile jogging track, three racquetball courts, an indoor climbing wall, two group fitness and exercise rooms, locker rooms, meeting spaces and department administrative offices. Campus Recreation programs also utilize 2 lighted synthetic turf fields, 6 lighted natural turf fields, and various other fields throughout campus.
