Financial Wellness

At the University of Northern Colorado, financial wellness means building awareness of your current finances.

What is Financial Wellness?

Simply put, financial wellness is the ability to understand and take control of your money. This includes budgeting, understanding credit, smart borrowing, managing debt, and planning for the future.

At UNC, we believe financial wellness is a key part of student success. Whether you’re managing a part-time job, navigating financial aid, or planning for life after graduation, we’re here to help you build the confidence and skills to make informed financial decisions.

UNC students have free access to iGrad, a financial wellness platform with hundreds of articles, videos, courses, and tools. After completing a quick Financial Wellness Check-up, iGrad provides personalized recommendations based on your goals and financial situation.

Paying for School

Dealing with the FAFSA, financial aid awards, student loans, and work study can be overwhelming. UNC has staff dedicated to guiding students through these processes in the Office of Financial Aid. Make an appointment with a Financial Aid Counselor (link). For general Financial Aid questions, check out iGrad’s Financial Aid FAQ series.

Scholarships are a great way to cover costs without taking out loans. UNC has one application to be considered for all UNC Foundation Scholarships you qualify for. The deadline each year is February 1st

There are many other organizations that offer scholarships. If you attended high school in Weld County, you can apply for funds through the Weld County Bright Futures initiative. You can also search for scholarships using iGrad’s Scholarship Search tool.

Sometimes, managing your money simply isn’t enough. If you are facing housing or food insecurity, the Center for Student Wellbeing can help.
