Student Nutrition and Dietetics Association (SNDA)

SNDA is open to all registered UNC students who are interested in the study of Nutrition and Dietetics, including Dietetics majors, Nutrition majors and Nutrition minors. It promotes the field of dietetics to the student body and community. A nominal fee for the membership is required.

Objectives

  1. Provide nutrition information and promote sound nutrition practices among the community and peers.
  2. Provide opportunities for members to participate in volunteer activities, as well as to become familiar with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

President - Alex Silva (Dietetics major)

Hometown: Auberry, California
Bio/Nutritional Interests: My passion for nutrition started when I was 18 and have been driven to be involved in the field. I want to specialize in community nutrition and impact the lives of those who may not have the resources to have healthy lives.

Hometown: Anchorage, Alaska
Bio/Nutritional Interests: I transferred to UNC in 2015 after completing my culinary degree and I have been a member of SNDA since. My goal is to work in community nutrition to use my background in both culinary and nutrition.

Bio/Nutritional Interests: I love to play the piano, workout and read. As a member of Delta Zeta sorority, I love to do community service wherever I can help out. Some fun facts about me are that I am left-handed, I am pescatarian, and I have run a half marathon.

Bio/Nutritional Interests: I am interested in maternal and childhood nutrition. My hobbies include hiking, skiing, and any activities that are outside.

Hometown: Denver, Colorado (originally from Oklahoma)
Bio/Nutritional Interests: With a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and management from Oklahoma State University, I worked in the software industry.  Now married with children, I've been a stay-at-home mom while taking classes to make a career change into Dietetics. Jacob, 9 and Sarah, 6 both attend a Spanish immersion school in Lafayette. We also have two dogs, Nikko and Chewy, who are labradoodles.

12th Annual Food Drive!

October 27, 2017

 

The SNDA and Weld Food Bank invite UNC clubs, organizations, residence halls, colleges, departments/schools/programs, and administrative offices to participate in this year's annual Cans to Candelaria food drive. Groups may begin collecting cans and cash ($1 = six pounds of food!) now through the Cans drop-off day on October 27 from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm in Candelaria parking lot L.

In addition, don't miss out on the CanSculpture event during UNC Homecoming week on Monday, October 16, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the McKee Breezeway located on west campus.  Teams of students will bring donated food items to build magnificent sculptures during this time.  Judges will review the creations and prizes will be awarded!
