Summer Session

Accelerate your education with UNC Summer Sessions. With four summer sessions to choose from and a flexible course schedule, you can get ahead on credits and still have time to work, vacation with family and hang out with friends.

UNC offers undergraduate, graduate and Extended Campus courses, online and on-campus.

Registration begins on March 30, 2026 at 7 a.m

  • First 6-week session runs May 18 through June 26

Summer Registration

The Summer Registration Process is designed to help students secure their preferred courses, understand important deadlines, and prepare for a successful academic term. Whether students are continuing their studies, catching up on credits, or exploring new subjects, the summer session offers flexible options and accelerated learning opportunities.

Maximum Credit Hours

  • The maximum hours you may take as an undergraduate student during the Summer Session is 15 credit hours. If you wish to take up to 18 credit hours, you must complete the Overload Request form, obtain the appropriate signatures, and return the completed form to the Office of the Registrar.
  • The maximum hours you may take as a graduate student during the Summer Session is 12 credit hours. If you wish to take up to 15 credit hours, you must complete the Overload Request form, obtain the appropriate signatures, and return the completed form to the Office of the Registrar.

Registering with Holds

  • If you have any holds on your account that affect registration, you will not be allowed to register for classes until the hold has been resolved. To do so, you must contact the department that placed the hold.

Summer courses are not eligible for the Concurrent Enrollment Program, and full tuition will be billed directly to the student. See Tuitions and Costs.
