Program Overview
Are you passionate about math? Ready to inspire the next generation?
The Mathematics Education Bachelor of Science degree is built for students who love math and want to share that passion with others. In this program, you’ll learn how to teach algebra, geometry and other key math topics to students in grades 6–12 — in ways that are engaging, relevant and inclusive for every learner.
You’ll graduate with a deep knowledge of both math and how to teach it. Along the way, you’ll gain real classroom experience through school placements, team projects and partnerships with local schools and communities.
This program also prepares you to:
- Lead a classroom with confidence
- Support students from all backgrounds and learning styles
- Connect math to real-world language and ideas
- Make students genuinely curious about math
When you finish, you’ll be ready to teach middle school or high school math in Colorado. Choose a licensure concentration and you’ll graduate fully licensed to teach in the state. The program also sets you up for graduate study in mathematics education if you want to take your career even further.
Mathematics Concentrations
Which path is right for you?
The Mathematics Education B.S. offers four options — including three licensure concentrations — so you can choose the path that fits your goals.
All four options prepare you to teach core math topics like arithmetic, algebra and geometry in engaging, relevant and inclusive ways. You’ll build a strong foundation in both math and education, gain real classroom experience through school placements and team projects, and develop the skills to lead a classroom, support diverse learners and spark curiosity in every student.
Explore math education ideas in middle school and secondary contexts. This option gives you broad exposure to the field but does not include in-depth teacher preparation, practicum experience or licensure to teach in Colorado.
Graduate fully prepared and qualified for licensure to teach mathematics in grades 6–12 in Colorado.
Graduate fully prepared and qualified for licensure to teach middle school mathematics in grades 6–8 in Colorado.
Everything in the Middle School option, plus you’ll be qualified to add the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) Endorsement in Colorado — a valuable credential for teaching in diverse classrooms.
