View Full Application Process

Students from all academic backgrounds are welcome to apply to the Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program. An undergraduate degree in speech-language sciences, audiology or communication disorders is not required to begin the AuD program.

Applicants without a background in communication disorders may still benefit from completing foundational coursework before enrollment. Although not required, courses such as Normal Speech and Language Development (CSD 266), Basic Audiology (CSD 370) and Aural Rehabilitation & Amplification (CSD 478) may be helpful prior to enrollment in the program.

To be eligible for professional certification through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association after graduation, additional foundational coursework may be needed. You can complete these courses at UNC, community colleges or other accredited institutions:

  • Statistics (covered in the AuD curriculum)
  • Biological Sciences (1 class with a lab)
  • Physical Sciences (1 class in physics or chemistry; lab not required)
  • Behavioral or Social Sciences (1 class in psychology or sociology)

Note: Because the AuD program is full-time and intensive, it can be challenging to complete foundational coursework during the program. Completing these recommended courses in advance gives you a smooth start and ensures academic success.

Please reach out to the AuD Graduate Coordinator, Dr. Hannah Glick, AuD, PhD, CCC-A if you have any questions related to foundational coursework.

Students who complete this program are eligible to apply for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and/or for Board Certification in Audiology awarded by the American Board of Audiology (ABA).

Graduates can also qualify for licensure from the Colorado Department of Education and/or the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.

The residential doctoral (AuD) program in Audiology at the University of Northern Colorado is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and the Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
