First-Year Student Orientation

We can’t wait to welcome you and your family/support system to the UNC Bear community!
New Student Orientation (NSO) is a one-day, in-person experience designed to help you feel confident and prepared to begin your UNC journey this spring.

All new students beginning classes in Spring 2026 are expected to attend NSO on Friday, January 9, 2026, followed by Winter Welcome weekend activities.

After you have confirmed you're coming to UNC by submitting your decision form, you can register for New Student Orientation.

What to Expect at NSO

NSO is designed to help you feel confident and ready before classes begin. Here’s what you can look forward to:

  • Meet other incoming students and start building friendships.
  • Engage in small group activities led by current UNC students (your Orientation Leaders).

Learn About Life at UNC

  • Take part in sessions that help you understand UNC’s expectations and support systems. Participate in B.E.A.R. (Bystander Engagement, Awareness, and Responsibility), an interactive program focused on community care and safety.

Explore Campus & Resources

  • Visit campus offices like Bear Central, the Disability Resource Center, and the Center for Career Readiness during open hours.
  • Check out involvement opportunities, part-time jobs, and wellness programs during the Involvement Sessions and Resource Fair.

Enjoy the Welcome Lunch

  • Join fellow students, Orientation Leaders, and staff for a catered lunch and table discussions about your college transition.

End the Day with Winter Welcome
