Student Affairs Launches New Telemental Health Platform for Students

A new suite of telehealth support offerings for UNC students, faculty, staff and more

TELUS Health Student Support is an innovative mental health program that provides 24/7 support for students. The program is available at no cost to students and complements UNC’s on-campus Counseling Center and other mental health resources.

The program offers:

  • A toll-free 24/7 crisis phone line for students (1-833-862-3272). Services available in English, Spanish, French, Mandarin and Cantonese.
  • This same phone number serves as an after-hours mental health consultation line for faculty, staff, coaches, parents, family and any other third party concerned about the mental health of a student. Save this phone number to your contacts for easy future access.
  • Brief, scheduled tele-counseling sessions with a mental health professional, with more ability to accommodate students’ culture and lived experience preferences.
  • Chat support with peers and with professionals.
  • Virtual fitness support, online health assessments, well-being articles, videos, and podcasts.

While the 24/7 crisis and consultation lines can be accessed via phone, other platform features require the free TELUS Health Student Support app, available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. TELUS offers a number of apps, so students should be sure to download the TELUS Health Student Support app.   This partnership was made possible though collaborative funding from The Weld Trust and UNC.  Grants from The Weld Trust and other private foundations are awarded to the UNC Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing support and stewarding donations for the university.
