Homecoming 2021 is here, and the Bears are Back in Town. Unlike last year’s virtual celebration from home, UNC’s Homecoming traditions, some of them dating back to 1923, are returning to in-person again.

University of Northern Colorado (UNC) has chosen Cedric Howard, Ed.D., as the university's new vice president for Student Affairs. Howard, who was selected through a national search the university launched last May, will start his position on Dec. 6, 2021.

This year, UNC's celebration of Latinx Heritage Month is coupled with an institutional commitment to better serve the growing population of Hispanic/Latinx-identifying students as the university launches a new website, affirming their journey and progress toward becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).

During the annual State of the University Address on Sept. 8, UNC President Andy Feinstein, along with several other university leaders, reflected on the challenges over the past year brought on by the pandemic and the importance of working together to overcome those challenges.

UNC was selected in a highly competitive grant process, as a recipient of a $850,000 Colorado Scholarship Opportunity Initiative (COSI) Back to Work grant. The funding will provide new career paths for workers displaced by the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic while also addressing the need for teachers in Colorado’s classrooms.

This August, the Bears are back to school in a big way. There are many on-campus events planned, and UNC has partnered with Greeley to paint the town blue and gold, with “This is Bear Country” signs appearing in yards and at businesses throughout the area.

University of Northern Colorado President Andy Feinstein announced on June 17 that Lisa Vollendorf, Ph.D., has been appointed as interim provost for the 2021-22 academic year. Vollendorf brings 26 years of higher education experience to UNC and has held numerous leadership roles, including provost, dean, department chair and Academic Senate chair. She will start her new role on July 1, 2021.

The University of Northern Colorado Board of Trustees conducted its final meeting of the 2020-21 fiscal year on Friday, June 11, 2001.

UNC's Open Educational Resources (OER) Committee announces faculty members who were recently awarded stipends to transform a course from using commercial texts and course materials to implementing OER for fall 2021.

Dr. Andrew “Andy” Feinstein, president of the University of Northern Colorado and current chair of the Big Sky Conference Presidents’ Council, has been appointed to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Board of Directors.
