UNC welcomes three new deans from across the university, with each one bringing strengths and new vision to their roles.

Karen Barton, professor of Geography, GIS and Sustainability, took 14 UNC students up to Estes Park for a hands-on workshop titled “Careers in National Parks and Protected Areas.”

Joining the university in 1994 as an assistant professor of geography, Jim Doerner, a full professor of Geography, GIS, and Sustainability, became permanent dean in April 2023 for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS).

To meet the increasing demand for new GIS and drone technologies, the Department of Geography, GIS and Sustainability is launching two new GIS certificates in fall 2023, GIS and Cartography and Drone Operations and Spatial Analytics.

Ten UNC students traveled to Memphis, Tennessee to help clean up the Mississippi River. The trip was part of GEO 111, a course designed to give students hands-on field experience and equip them to use that experience to solve real-world problems.

University of Northern Colorado Department of History Lecturer Kelly Langley Cook has been selected as the recipient of the 2023 Sears Helgoth Distinguished Teaching Award.

When Lindsey (’10,’14) and Casey (’10) Goodman stepped onto the University of Northern Colorado’s campus in Greeley in 2006, they both felt an immediate connection to the school. Lindsey, hailing from Palisade, Colorado, knew she wanted to teach, and Casey, also from Colorado, wanted to study political science.
