Joel Chavez

Joel has been designing, building, painting, and dressing theatrical sets throughout Colorado since 2005. His award-winning scenic designs and painting skills have been prominently featured and recognized in the Denver Metro Area and Northern Colorado, including Little Theatre of The Rockies, The Candlelight, BDT Stage, Arvada Center, Union Colony Dinner Theatre, Midtown Arts Center, Aurora Fox, Town Hall Arts Center, PACE Center, and many more.

In addition to his scenic resume, Joel is also a seasoned actor and singer, having performed on many stages throughout the state. Not only a performer, he has also shared his talents as a director, choreographer, properties master, costume designer, puppeteer, and stage manager. It is important to work in as many areas of theatre as possible to properly understand it from every side; this is something he often reminds his students.

When not teaching students new painting techniques at UNC, Joel spends his time painting portraits and selling his artwork. His colorful celebrity portraits can be seen on display in restaurants and record stores in Fort Collins and Greeley, and is often featured in Denver theatres’ art galleries.
