Biography
Brazilian-born Dr. Dayvison Costa is a dynamic and versatile trumpet artist with an engaging career across classical, jazz, Latin, and commercial styles. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Classical Trumpet at the University of Northern Colorado, where he leads a diversified and dynamic studio.
Under his leadership, the UNC Trumpet Large Ensemble was invited to perform as a prelude ensemble at the International Trumpet Guild Conference, earned Second Place in the 2026 Southard Music Competition, and saw one of its members receive a prestigious ITG scholarship. His students have also achieved consistent success, winning solo competitions and securing positions and sub-list appointments with regional orchestras in the northern Colorado area.
Dr. Dayvison Costa has recently appeared with the Greeley Chamber Orchestra, the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, the Zephyr Brass Collective, and the Colorado All-Star Jazz Orchestra, further establishing his presence as a versatile performer across orchestral, chamber, and commercial settings. He previously served for three seasons as Co-Principal Trumpet of the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra, Arlington Symphony Orchestra, and Garland Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with ensembles including the McKinney Philharmonic Orchestra, East Texas Symphony Orchestra, Meridian Symphony Orchestra, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and the Chamber Orchestra of the University of São Paulo.
His versatility extends to jazz and Latin genres, with appearances alongside Funkiphino, the John Mills Big Band, the UNT Jazz Lab Bands, and UNC’s Latin Beat Ensemble, with whom he toured Colorado and New Mexico in 2025.
As a soloist, Dr. Costa has appeared in notable performances including Concerto for Two Trumpets by Erik Morales at the 2022 College Band Directors National Association Conference, the Brazilian premiere of Gemini Concerto by Philip Sparke in 2022, and a performance of Centennial Horizon by Kevin McKee with the University of Campinas Symphonic Band in Campinas, Brazil, in 2025. He remains active nationally as a clinician and guest artist, including serving as guest artist for the 2026 Colorado State University Trumpet Day, and continues his affiliation as a faculty member of the University of Kentucky Summer Trumpet Institute.
Prior to his appointment at UNC, Dr. Costa held fellow teaching positions at the University of North Texas and the University of Southern Mississippi and served as trumpet instructor for the nationally recognized Marcus High School Marching Band. He is in high demand as a clinician and adjudicator, with recent engagements including the National Trumpet Competition, Colorado All-State Band, University of Wyoming, Colorado State University, East Texas A&M University, and a residency at the University of North Texas.
Dr. Costa holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas, a Master of Music degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a Bachelor’s degree in Trumpet Performance from the Universidade de São Paulo. He is currently a Padovani Mouthpiece artist and a Conn-Selmer regional artist.
