American Sign Language English Interpreting (ASLEI) Summer Session
Our American Sign Language and Interpreting Studies program offers a summer session for students who are currently enrolled at UNC in the ASLEI BA Program.
Important Dates
American Sign Language and English Interpretation B.A. Summer Session
2 weeks online classes
Residence Hall Check in
- The earliest you can move into the residence hall is (noon) 12:00 p.m.
- Give yourself enough time to adjust to your new time zone/environment
On Campus Classes
- On campus orientation (for all students) is 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the University Center on June 15, 2026.
- Classroom locations will be confirmed at the on campus orientation.
- Typical class hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Check your specific cohort schedule for exact times as schedules vary by group.
- The in person classes will end on Friday, June 26, 2026. Your cohort specific schedule will indicate the end time.
- Note: No early releases! Attendance hours are mandatory for all campus classes.
- 2 weeks online: June 29-July 10
Residence Hall Check Out
- You can move out of the residence hall any time after your last class on Friday June 26, 2026
- The latest you can check out of the residence hall is noon on Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Important People
You will be interacting with various individuals throughout the summer session. You will interact with your course instructors during the online and residential portions of the summer session. Your instructors are your Point of Contacts for all things courses related (materials, activities, homework, assignment, etc.).

What do I need to bring?
Preparing for the summer residential session means more than packing your bags—it also means getting organized for your courses. Here’s what you need to do before arriving on campus:
Review Important Course Documents
- ASLEI Student Handbook Read through it to understand program expectations.
- Draft Syllabi – Instructors will email draft syllabi about 2 weeks before classes begin.
- Final Syllabi – Available in Canvas at the start of the session.
Buy Your Course Materials
- Required materials will be listed in the syllabi.
- Purchase your books and supplies through the UNC Bookstore or your favorite retailer.
- Bring all course materials with you to the residential session you’ll need them from day one.
