UNC Medical School moves closer to opening, prepares for first recruits

The college will emphasize rural health and primary care, aiming to address Colorado’s growing physician shortage. Officials say the program is designed to train doctors who will serve communities across the state, particularly in areas with limited access to health care.

Osteopathic commission to review UNC's application

UNC celebrated a milestone in late September on the construction of the $127.5 million building to house the medical college. The building is located on 20th Street, near the intersection with 11th Avenue, at the former site of Bishop-Lehr Hall.

UNC’s college of osteopathic medicine takes another step to opening

UNC remains in candidate status on the path to full accreditation. This phase shows colleges have demonstrated the planning and resources to move to the pre-accreditation phase, according to COCA.

EDITORIAL: A new source of doctors for rural Colorado

UNC’s new medical school is projected to have the ability to graduate 150 doctors per academic year. That should lift Colorado — the 21st-most populous state in the union as of 2024 — up from its ranking at No. 28 in the U.S. for enrolled medical students per capita.

A ‘profound initiative’: UNC will open Colorado’s third medical school

UNC is on track to open its College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) in 2026, which will give Colorado its third medical school and extend the university’s visibility and reach well beyond its Greeley campus, and, likely, beyond Feinstein’s wall of sound.
