Outreach and Confidentiality

Outreach and Education

As part of our mission to help the Northern Colorado community, our counselors-in-training, we offer free presentations for classes, clubs, and other groups on the UNC campus and in the local area.

Two types of presentations:

  • Informational Presentations (15–30 minutes): Learn about the counseling and testing services offered at the PSC. These are great for students or community members who may want to use our services.
  • Educational Presentations (30–90 minutes): Learn helpful skills and tips on topics like stress, anxiety, mindfulness, self-care, anger, and mental wellness.

Your Privacy Matters

We take your privacy seriously. What you share in counseling is kept private, with a few exceptions required by Colorado law. Our counselors-in-training follow professional rules set by the American Psychological Association (APA), the American Counseling Association (ACA), and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).

Frequently Asked Questions

Our services are open to both community members and UNC students.

All of our counselors-in-training are UNC graduate students working toward their master’s or doctoral degrees in an area of Counseling or Psychology. Counselors-in-training are supervised by licensed professionals. We strive to train our students to be competent, culturally sensitive, and strengths-based in their approach. Students work from a variety of theories and perspectives.

All individual and couples/family sessions are 45-50 minutes. We typically see clients once a week and at the same time every week. Group sessions last between 60 and 90 minutes depending on the semester. We follow the University’s Calendar, and we will not schedule sessions during University breaks and holidays. Similarly, the Pyshcological Services Clinic will close in tandem with the University when there is inclement weather. Please contact the Clinic office for more information and check UNC’s homepage for closures.

Counseling fees are typically $75 for the entirety of the semester. We strive to make our services accessible to everyone and will work with clients to ensure financial barriers do not prevent care. Group services are free. Fees for comprehensive psychoeducational, personality, learning, and/or developmental assessments start at $750.

The Pyschological Services Clinic reserves the right to refer out any clients based on our availability and the appropriateness of a client for our services. We do not offer crisis services, psychiatric services, or clinicians trained to work with clients coping with active substance abuse. Depending on the nature of a client’s presenting concern and current availability of clinicians, our clinic staff may provide clients with more appropriate referrals for community resources.

If you or someone you know is currently experiencing a mental health crisis, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. We do not have emergency services within our clinic, and our phone is not regularly staffed after hours or during school breaks. If you wish to talk to a crisis counselor, please see the resources below:

Please call our office at 970-351-1645 to discuss the variety and availability of services offered.  If clinic staff is unavailable, please leave a message including your name, phone number, and the best time to reach you, and clinic staff will return your call within 3 business days unless otherwise noted in our voicemail.
