Peer Mentor October 2025 Newsletter

MANDATORY Large Group Advising Meetings

ALL students in the Middle School AND Secondary Mathematics Teacher Education Programs are REQUIRED to attend one of the following meetings:
● Wednesday, 1 October 11:15 am – 12:00 pm (Zoom link for virtual session)
● Thursday, 2 October 11:00 am – 11:45 am in Ross Hall 2238
If you do not attend one of the meetings, you MUST meet with a peer mentor OR view a video and respond to questions about the advising session before you will receive your PIN. You will still need to meet with your advisor to get your PIN BEFORE registration begins in November.

Upcoming Events

Math Teacher Prep Bingo Night

The peer mentors are hosting a game night on Wednesday, October 15th, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm! It will be held in Ross 2238 (the Mathematical Sciences conference room). It is a great way to build community and hang out with others in the program! There will also be snacks and candy available for participants!

Future Teacher Club (FTC)

  • On Monday, October 6th at 6 pm, FTC will hold an event discussing banned books, with a variety of activities. This event will take place in McKee 223, all students are welcome!
  • On Tuesday, October 21st from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, FTC and the University Program Council are collaborating to host an Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader style trivia night at the Burger Bar. Get a group together to compete and have fun!

Mathematical Sciences Club

Meets every Friday from 1:25 – 2:15 pm in Ross Hall 2060! Free pizza, interesting puzzles and game

General Resources

There are many resources available to you if you need any type of assistance including:

  • Faculty: Dr. Powers (robert.powers@unco.edu) and Dr. Reiten (lindsay.reiten@unco.edu) teach many of the classes required for the mathematics education program and are great resources.
  • Peer Mentor: Peer mentors are here to help with any issues you might be having – even those not related to your place in the Mathematics Education Program. 
  • The Mathematics Teacher Education Program Canvas shell and the bulletin board in Ross located opposite the Math Office are also a key resource for program students.

  • Monday:  4pm – 5pm (with Maria)
  • Tuesday:  2pm – 3pm (with Dylan)
