October 2026 Newsletter

The October newsletter contains information about the mandatory large group advising meetings, upcoming events, general resources to support program students, peers' favorite seasonal candy and jokes, as well as Praxis study questions.

MANDATORY Large Group Advising Meetings

ALL students in the Middle School AND Secondary Mathematics Teacher Education Programs are REQUIRED to attend one of the following meetings:

If you do not attend one of the meetings, you MUST meet with a peer mentor OR view a video and respond to questions about the advising session before you will receive your PIN. You will still need to meet with your advisor to get your PIN BEFORE registration begins in November. 

Upcoming Events 

  • Math Teacher Prep Board Game and Card Game Night
    • The peer mentors are hosting a game night on Monday, October 12th, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm! It will be held in Ross 2238 (the Mathematical Sciences conference room). It is a great way to build community and hang out with others in the program! There will also be snacks and candy available for participants! 
  • Future Teacher Club
    • On Wednesday, October 28th at 6:00 pm, FTC will hold its monthly meeting. It will take place in McKee 223. For more information, check out their Instagram page @unco_futureteacherclub. It is a great opportunity to meet other future teachers outside of your program!
  • Mathematical Sciences Club
    • Meets every Friday from 1:25 – 2:15 pm in Ross Hall 2060! Free pizza, interesting puzzles and games, and a great opportunity to meet peers and faculty interested in math sciences!
  • (Mathematics) Cafecito and Sheeko
    • Join us at Bella Romero K-8 on Tuesday, November 10th at 5:30 pm for a night celebrating mathematics and culture! We will have food, games, and activities representing Hispanic/Latine, Somali, and American cultures. Come early to help set-up!

General Resources

There are many resources available to you if you need any type of assistance, including:

  • Faculty: Dr. Reiten (lindsay.reiten@unco.edu) coordinates the mathematics teacher preparation programs, teaches some of the required program courses, and is a great resource.
  • Peer Mentor: Peer mentors are here to help with any issues you might be having – even those not related to your place in the Mathematics Education Program. 
  • The Mathematics Teacher Education Program Canvas shell and the bulletin board in Ross, located opposite the Math Office, are also key resources for program students.

    • Monday:  2:30 pm – 3:30 pm
    • Thursday: 3:30 pm – 4:30pm
    • Friday:       4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
  • Hayden:
    • Tuesday:   3:30 pm – 4:30pm
    • Thursday:12:30 pm – 1:30 pm

Praxis Prep Sessions (ROSS 2230G):

  • Monday:  1:30 pm – 2:30 pm (with Hayden)
  • Wednesday:  3:00 pm – 4:00 pm (with Maria)
