Praxis Information

To graduate from UNC in either of the mathematics teaching concentrations, future teachers need to pass the appropriate Praxis exam. To send your scores to UNC, use code 4074 when taking the exam. You are given 180 minutes (3 hours) to complete 66 questions (not all questions are scored the same). Each attempt costs $130 but you can take it as many times as necessary. You must take the Praxis before STEP 363 and pass it before STEP 464 (Student Teaching).
Versions and Passing Scores:

• Secondary Math Teachers (6-12) take Praxis 5165 and get a score of 159 to pass.
• Middle School Math Teachers (6-8) take Praxis 5164 and get a score of 157 to pass

The Ed Prep Office has a special discount rate with 240 Tutoring that provides access to Praxis study materials like flashcards, quizzes, practice tests and more! It’s $20/month and can be canceled at any time. Questions should be directed to Tish Thompson.

Summer Employment

• Looking to make some money this summer? Here are some ideas about the kind of work you could do over the summer:
• Research at UNC – Reach out to faculty about future opportunities if you are interested.
• Substitute Teaching in District 6 – A great way to gain experience and build connections in the district.
• Generation Teach – This is a great opportunity to consider getting involved in teaching locally. The deadline is May 15th. Visit the Generation Teach website for more information.
• For other opportunities, sign up for Handshake if you haven’t already. Questions about Handshake? Research out to the Center for Career Readiness on campus!

Mentor/ Praxis Prep Hours

During Finals Week (5/4-5/8) we will each be hosting one drop-in mentoring time for any final questions, advising, or Praxis prep. Please see the schedule below for those times. Otherwise, we will both be available by email.
