Last month, I updated you on the work being done to address the financial impacts facing UNC as a result of COVID-19.

The economic impact of COVID-19 has been severe and far reaching. As a result, the State of Colorado’s ability to invest in public higher education, and specifically in UNC, has been significantly impacted.

Today, the United States Supreme Court issued a ruling in Department of Homeland Security v. Regents of the University of California blocking the Trump administration’s 2017 termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy, or DACA.

I am proud of our students, faculty, staff, and alumni who are showing leadership by facilitating and participating in peaceful protests that give voice to concerns that have been ignored for far too long.

As Colorado’s most affordable research institution, we must continue our mission to provide accessible, high-quality teaching, learning, research, and creative works.

The fall semester begins in 76 days and this year, more than ever, I’m looking forward to seeing everyone return to campus.

George Floyd is another victim among countless others who have violently lost their lives or whose lives were threatened because of the color of their skin.

As I reflect on what has surely been the most unusual semester of my career, I am immensely proud of our students, faculty, staff, trustees, alumni, and friends for everything we have accomplished together.

Several weeks ago, we convened a special Board of Trustees meeting to discuss the emerging financial impacts of COVID-19 on UNC.

As the spring semester winds down and we prepare for a continuation of online instruction over the summer, our focus has naturally turned toward planning for the fall.
