The Marcus Garvey Cultural Center hosts signature events throughout the year to celebrate, honor, and uplift Black culture, history, and community. These programs are open to all members of the UNC campus community and reflect our commitment to learning, service, and connection.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

Each January, we honor the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr with a Day of Service. Join the UNC community as we give back, support our cultural and resource centers, and reflect on Dr. King’s vision for justice and education.

Juneteenth Celebration

Juneteenth, celebrated each June, marks the emancipation of the last group of enslaved Africans in the United States. The Garvey Center hosts a joyful celebration with music, food, games, and connection, honoring freedom, resilience, and the ongoing journey toward justice.

Black Heritage Month

Each February, UNC celebrates Black Heritage Month with programs, workshops, and events that highlight the contributions, culture, and history of Black communities locally and globally. These events create opportunities to learn, engage, and connect with our campus community.
