Special Education Graduate Deeply Committed to Helping Those Who Need the Most Help

Studying at the University of Northern Colorado changed Fernando Beltran’s life. And now he is committed to changing the lives of others.

“[There is] a side of me that always wants to help the ones that need the most help. To be a special education teacher you need a lot of empathy and commitment because that community requires a lot of it. It takes a lot of energy from you, and I knew I wanted to help them feel part of the community.”

A Novel Take on Education

Communication Sciences and Disorders major Madeline Dannewitz risks it all to become educated building a future all on her own. She left her tight-knit religious community, including her family, to chase after her dream.

And the Show Goes On

Musical Theatre major Andrea Camacho is ready to make the stage their oyster, thanks to many UNC theater production opportunities. She began landing lead roles her very first semester at the university.

“UNC gives you so many resources. There is a siblings program at PVA which assigns you a ‘big’ when you start school, so you don’t ever feel completely alone. I was also fortunate enough to be in many shows here at UNC that allowed me to see the same people all the time, so it was really awesome to know I had a community here.”

Launching a Career at the Start
