Military Science (Army) Minor
Develop leadership skills and serve your country as an Army officer. The Military Science minor, offered through Army ROTC, provides professional military education and leadership training for students committed to service after graduation.
To receive a minor in Military Science, you must commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army upon graduation.
Students can earn a degree in any major to commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. Earning an undergraduate or master’s degree is a program requirement to receive an officer commission.
The location for Army ROTC programming is at the UNC Greeley campus (classroom instruction for Freshman & Sophomores), and CSU in Fort Collins (classroom instruction for Juniors & Seniors, and experiential learning lab for all levels).
Your training goes beyond the classroom. Through practical exercises, laboratory work and Army Advanced Camp, you’ll apply leadership principles in real scenarios—receiving feedback from experienced cadre and peer evaluation from fellow cadets.

You can receive numerous scholarships are available, and contracted cadets receive a monthly tax-free allowance throughout the program.
Program Structure:
- 100 and 200-level courses: Open to all students interested in military science and leadership
- 300 and 400-level courses: Reserved for contracted cadets pursuing the minor

You’ll take introductory military leadership courses and basic military science labs such as:
- Leadership and Personal Development
- Introduction to Tactical Leadership
- Innovative Team Leadership
- Foundations of Tactical Leadership
- Foundations of Tactical Leadership Lab
- Military Tactical Leadership
After completing the full ROTC program, you’ll earn:
- A commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army
- The opportunity to serve at least four years on active duty, or six years in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard
