Program Overview

Whether you’re looking to manage a small business or a Fortune 500 company, the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award-winning Monfort College of Business is the place to study.

With 11 concentrations to choose from, UNC’s Business Administration degree lets you select the area of business that you’re most interested in.

Our programs are designed to equip students with practical skills, strategic thinking, and a global perspective, ensuring they are well-prepared for the dynamic business landscape.

Depending on your concentration, your classes will vary. All Business Administration majors are required to complete the Professional Experience requirements. That includes: three workshops and completing an internship for credit or an approved professional experience.

Your business core credits will include classes in accounting, marketing, operations management and more – allowing you to be a well-rounded person when entering the workforce.

Business Administration Minor: This 21-credit minor lets you explore topics like computer information systems, accounting, finance, management and marketing without majoring.

At UNC, our Business Administration program lets you focus on what’s important to you.

Whether you’re interested in balancing the books, marketing the latest products or starting your own business – you’ll find a concentration that matches your goals.

There are also multiple choices within Finance and Management, dig deeper into specific areas like Human Resource Management or Wealth and Asset Management.

When you study Accounting at UNC, we set you up for success. We have been recognized nationally for research in Experimental Accounting Information Systems and Experimental Audit.

Learn to analyze financial statements and use accounting software.

Majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting prepares you to sit for the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Exam. However, for Colorado CPA licensure, you will have to complete 30 additional credit hours.

Finance: Our general concentration in Finance gives you a broad view of managing money and other assets. Learn about investing, borrowing, lending, saving and managing risk.

Institutions and Risk Management: If you’re more interested in evaluating, monitoring and addressing risks to help organizations stay on track, this is for you! Understand the ins and outs crafting and executing risk management approaches.

Wealth and Asset Management: Interested in helping people achieve their finance goals? Concentrate in Wealth and Asset Management to learn about optimizing portfolio performance, analyzing investments and financial advising.

This foundational concentration will teach about cultivating ideas and making them a reality. Learn to assemble and lead a team, cultivating a culture of innovation – and adapt to the ever-changing market demands.

With immersive projects, internship and mentorship opportunities, you’ll gain the practical skills you need to find success after graduation. Take classes like Managing New Business Ventures, Sustainable Innovation, and Social Entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship Concentration – Degree Requirements

Management: If you’re interested in a general view of Management, start here. Learn how to be an effective leader prepared to manage in a global environment. Engage and motivate employees while also mastering the art of understanding business issues.

Management Concentration – Degree Requirements

Hospitality and Event Management: Learn how to make people’s day a little brighter with great experiences. This concentration will help you understand event logistics and operations, marketing strategies, and project management.

Human Resource Management: Do you want to learn how to hire the best people and keep them productive once they’re on the team? Concentrating in Human Resource Management helps you promote a fair and inclusive workplace.

Become an expert in digital marketing and consumer psychology, learning how to build audiences based on what you’re promoting. Your ability to implement new marketing strategies based on data will make you an asset to any organization you want to join.

Marketing Concentration – Degree Requirements

Our most broad concentration helps you develop skills in accounting, finance, computer information systems, management and marketing. If you’re interested in running a small business, this is the concentration for you! 

General Business Concentration – Degree Requirements

Orchestrate the flow of digital information by learning computer programming, systems analysis, database design and the use of information technology (IT) systems.

Computer Information Systems (CIS) includes classes like Designing User Experiences, Database Management Systems, and Introduction to Computer Forensics.
