Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics
All applicants applying to the University of Northern Colorado College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNC COM) are required to complete the Casper assessment through the Altus Suite as part of the admissions process. Casper is an online situational judgment test designed to assess non-cognitive and interpersonal skills that are important for success in medical education and patient-centered care.
At UNC COM, we value attributes such as professionalism, ethical decision-making, communication, empathy, collaboration, and self-awareness. Casper complements the other components of our mission-merit admissions process and supports our commitment to fairness, equity, and a more holistic understanding of each applicant.
To complete the Casper assessment, applicants must have access to:
- A computer with audio capabilities
- A working webcam and microphone
- A reliable high-speed internet connection
- A valid email address
- A government-issued photo ID
Casper can be completed from any quiet location that meets the technical requirements above.
- As long as 1 of your letters are from a medical provider (e.g. an MD, DO, DPM, or PA), you can substitute your other 2 letters.
- We recommend you substitute your other 2 letters for a faculty member, a DO, or a supervisor who is a medical provider.
- Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to service and community through outreach, advocacy, or service activities.
- Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident (green card holders), or DACA recipient.
- A background check must be successfully completed prior to matriculation.
These standards reflect reasonable expectations of osteopathic medical students and physicians in performing common and important functions, keeping in mind the safety and welfare of the patients for whom our graduates will care. Please review these standards to ensure you can meet all requirements.
