Scholarships & Awards

Each spring, the Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice awards three scholarships.

Two of these scholarships are awarded to qualified applicants as a tribute to 1988 murder victim, Lisa Marie Kimmell. The Kimmell family endorsed the establishment of the Lisa Marie Kimmell Memorial Scholarship to promote professionalism in the field of criminal justice. Recipients must be CRJ majors who are entering their junior or senior year and are active members of UNC’s Criminal Justice Society.  Students are encouraged to apply in the fall or early spring semesters, before matriculating to junior or senior status.  A third scholarship opportunity is provided through the Walt Frances Fund to a senior who will graduate or has graduated during the academic year.  To apply for these scholarships, complete the UNC Universal Scholarship Application.

The Criminal Justice Scholar Athlete award is for a CRJ major and student-athlete, who has demonstrated exceptional academic performance.
