The Office of Health Promotion’s workshops and trainings cover a wide range of important health topics. Each training provides skills and knowledge to improve health on campus. OHP trainings are student led by our Certified Peer Health Educators. Trainings are open to students, staff, or faculty! We are happy to present to classes, student organizations, and staff trainings.

BRAVE Talk
Be the Friend Who Shows Up
Want to feel more confident helping a friend who’s going through a tough time? BRAVE Talk is a 90-minute, interactive training that gives you the tools to recognize when someone’s struggling and how to support them—peer to peer.
Developed by the JED Foundation, BRAVE Talk is all about real conversations, practical strategies, and building a stronger, more caring UNC community.
In BRAVE Talk, you’ll learn how to:
- Spot signs that a friend might be in distress
- Understand what holds us back from reaching out
- Start supportive, non-judgmental conversations
- Connect peers to helpful campus resources
This training is open to all students—no experience needed, just a willingness to show up and care. Ready to get started?
Build Your Own Self-Care Plan
Because self-care isn’t one-size-fits-all.
This 45-minute workshop helps you create a self-care plan that actually works for you. You’ll walk away with practical tools to support your well-being—whether you’re looking to manage everyday stress or prepare for the tough days.
You’ll explore:
- What self-care really looks like in your life
- The difference between maintenance and emergency self-care
- Positive coping strategies that fit your style
- How to reflect on what’s already working (and what’s not)
- How to build your own go-to emergency self-care plan
This session is all about helping you take care of yourself in a way that feels real, doable, and sustainable. Let’s build something that sticks.

Overdose Prevention: Naloxone Training
Be a Harm Reduction Champion. Learn how to respond, support, and save a life.
This 60-minute training is open to all students, faculty, and staff who want to step up and make a difference. You’ll gain the knowledge and tools to reduce drug-related harm in our campus community—and feel more confident knowing what to do in a suspected overdose situation.
You’ll learn:
- How to recognize and respond to an overdose
- How to safely use naloxone (Narcan)
- Emergency tips that can make all the difference
- What you need to know about fentanyl

Party with a Plan
Real talk. Real tips. Safer nights out.
Headed to a party? This interactive, student-led session gives you practical strategies to help you and your friends party safer and smarter. In just 60 minutes, you’ll learn how to reduce risk, look out for others, and make informed choices—without the lecture vibe.
We’ll cover:
- What a real drink size looks like
- How to plan ahead for a safer night
- How blood alcohol content actually works
- Fentanyl test strips and how to use them
- Naloxone (Narcan): what it is and how it helps
- Recognizing signs of overdose
- What the Good Samaritan Law means for you
