Our program provides students with advanced and marketable critical thinking and research skills. These skills allow you to tackle real-world social issues and make change. Students gain applied experience relevant to any career path. This includes nonprofit administration, leadership, social services, policy analysis, business and marketing.

Analyze Society and Achieve Social Change
We offer a diverse sociology program. You’ll have small class sizes and can work side-by-side with your professors. You will increase your understanding of and ability to analyze social phenomena.

You will also learn to identify and overcome barriers within organizations. This will help them achieve their goals. They will also be able to assess and make projections about social costs and benefits. This resulting from policies aimed at meeting community or organizational needs.

You’ll learn:

  • How to interpret and analyze social problems from a sociological perspective.
  • Analytical and administrative skills.
  • How to collect and assess data via advanced quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Advanced, professional writing and presentation skills.

Social Research Lab
The lab serves UNC and the community. It uses faculty and students to produce affordable, customized research solutions. It reflects our commitment to the community and experiential learning.

The lab’s two main goals are:

  • Assist with research design and execution of research projects. These are for non-profit, for-profit and municipal clients.
  • Provide student training in research methods and project management.
