Biography
Shawn Walcott, MPH, CHES, is a passionate public health leader dedicated to advancing mental health, suicide prevention, and community well-being through systems-level change and capacity building. With a background in Human Services and a Master of Public Health, Shawn brings extensive experience in program development, federal grant management, and community capacity building across higher education and nonprofit sectors.
Currently serving as Director of Health Promotion at the University of Northern Colorado, Shawn leads campus-wide efforts to improve student mental health and develop long-term wellness strategies. Previously, he directed community impact initiatives at United Way of Larimer and Weld Counties, where he mobilized collective action to address housing instability, promote trauma-informed care, and implement evidence-based approaches to support vulnerable populations.
Shawn has successfully managed complex portfolios of state and federal grants, ensuring compliance, sustainability, and alignment with community needs. His experience includes strategic budgeting, grant reporting, and developing tools to monitor impact and improve transparency.
A Daniels Scholar and Colorado Health Foundation Aspen Ideas Health Fellow, Shawn is also a Certified Health Education Specialist and is involved in a variety of community wide mental health groups, helping to bridge the gap between the University of Nothern Colorado and community resources.
