Rudy Vargas serves as the Director of the César Chávez Cultural Center and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC), where he leads efforts to foster an inclusive campus climate, support Latine student success, and advance UNC’s mission as a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution.
Originally from Matamoros, Coahuila, Mexico, Rudy moved to Greeley, Colorado at the age of 12. As a first-generation college student and proud bilingual professional (Spanish/English), his lived experiences continue to inform his commitment to educational access and cultural affirmation.
Over the years, Rudy has served in multiple capacities, mentoring students, coordinating programs, and working in partnership with schools, nonprofits, and local organizations to uplift underserved populations. He is especially passionate about supporting first-generation scholars and historically marginalized communities.
Through both of his current roles, Rudy is dedicated to honoring cultural heritage, expanding opportunities, and ensuring that all students feel seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.
Education
Rudy is an alumnus of UNC, where he earned his B.A. in Spanish Literature and a minor in Teaching English as a Second Language in 2013, and a M.A. in Public Health from the Colorado School of Public Health in 2022.
